Modernisation of schools

Date posted: 09 Jan 2012
Schools need to modernise says Professor Brian Caldwell, former Dean of Education at the University of Melbourne, if they want to attract students in the future. The key changes he recommends by 2020 are:
1. The factory model of school buildings must change to a collaborative plan.
2. Students be taught as ‘lifelong knowledge workers’ - ie learn how to learn).
3. Schools develop more school/workplace partnerships so students. learn work skills while they are at school.
Prof Caldwell predicts that schools that do not modernise and change their teaching practices and their buildings will find that children will not want to attend their schools, and parents will not want to send them.
