After 35 years on staff at Hills Grammar School http://www.hillsgrammar.nsw.edu.au it was time for a change for Mrs Elizabeth Pellinkhof. As a foundation member of staff, first as a classroom teacher and more recently as Director of Marketing and Community Relations she has played a very significant role in the school.

Rather than losing this wealth of experience and relationships the school has created a new role of Alumni Manager. Principal Michael Smith expressed “I can think of no one better to establish the new role of Alumni Manager as Liz literally knows every single student who has ever passed through our gates.”

Comment: When long serving staff retire consider if they can have an ongoing role in Alumni relations. They know the history, names, faces and importantly the ongoing connections between former students. At over 80 years old, my former and long serving, Deputy Principal is a regular favourite at school reunions. Partly this is due to his amazing memory for “who is who” 30, 40 or 50 years later. Names of Principals are forgotten, as are many staff, but his legacy continues.
